The inclusion of Ariel bikes on the LAMS list is either a Vicroads brainfart, or some kind of cruel joke.
The only Ariel models available are the RED HUNTERS built from 1932 to 1940, so good luck finding one of them.
The most impressive Ariel bike, and the one that built their reputation as a builder of tough-as-guts British motorcycles were the SQUARE FOUR Mk I and MkII...but these are 1000cc monsters more suited to pulling out tree stumps being ridden by a Learner who obviously can't ride a 1000cc bike. Pity, the Square Four's are as tough as guts.
The other LAMS approved model is the infamous Ariel LEADER, a butt-fugly scooter whose only claim to fame was being the first British bike to come with indicators. It is a hideously ugly, under powered, poorly built and overpriced and led to the demise of the Ariel brand and eventually the entire company when they decided, in possibly the stupidest move in manufacturing and marketing history, to stop building tough as guts v-twin liter bikes and focus entirely on chunks of two-wheeled shite like the LEADER.
Who would ride a Leader? A total nob, that's who.
Why is Ariel included on the LAMS list? My guess is because the decision makers at Vicroads are complete dickheads but hey, you knew that already right?
